How much would you pay for a place to stay while you travel around the world? For a growing group of adventurous travelers, the answer is nothing at all – as long as they are willing to stay with people they don’t know. That’s the concept behind “couch surfing,” where people have a chance to stay for free on the couches or spare bedrooms of strangers when they visit new places.

The catch? They also have to let strangers stay at their place. As reported in The New Yorker, millions of people are members of Couchsurfing.org, an exchange that lets people host tourists at their house or apartment or look for people willing to offer their place as a temporary residence.
