Driving in the UAE during your holiday: Important facts

Home / Travel / Driving in the UAE during your holiday: Important facts

There is a lot of convenience to using a rental car during a holiday. Nothing will beat driving around, as opposed to waiting for public transport or paying for taxies. Renting a car in Abu Dhabi is easier than ever. Monte Carlo Rent A Car, LLC, for example, provides 24/7 individual service and will greet you at the airport with your rental. However, before you drive around, here are some facts that you should know.

Driving

Cars drive on the right-hand side of the road in the UAE and overtake on the left. Please note that there are a lot of fast (and sometimes reckless) drivers in the UAE, which is how they have one of the highest accident rates in the world.

Documents

All drivers in the UAE will need to show an international drivers license along with the driver’s license from your country. Also, carry your vehicle registration, insurance, and identity documents with you.

Speed limits

There are no set speed limits for the driving in the UAE. Instead, there are specific limits set for different areas. The speed limits can go from 80 km/h all the way to 140km/h. Be careful on roads outside the city, as there can be camels and other livestock crossing the road.

Parking

There is very little street parking. However, you will find plenty of paid garage parking in the city. If and when you do find street parking, you can use your smartphone to let you know when your parking will expire.

These are just a few of the things you should know. Look at a detailed list of the road rules in the country before you pick up your cheap car rental in Abu Dhabi.
